Spike Lee and his wife Tonya Lewis Lee have just been appointed as official ambassadors for Benin, representing African Americans in the U.S. 🇧🇯✨
Their new roles are part of Benin’s Afro-descendant initiative—focused on reconnecting the African diaspora with their ancestral roots, strengthening cultural ties, and promoting heritage tourism.
With decades of advocacy for civil rights, storytelling, and Black identity, the Lees were selected as powerful cultural figures to lead this mission—echoing the success of Ghana’s “Year of Return.”
This appointment marks another major step toward bridging history, healing, and homecoming across the Atlantic.
