“Rejection can make you question your abilities, your direction, and whether you belong in the rooms you hope to enter. Dr. Eli Joseph’s journey is a reminder that a rejection is not always the end of the story.
Joseph has spoken openly about receiving more than 1,500 job rejections, being denied admission to 30 colleges, and facing rejection from 75 scholarship foundations. Some of the universities that turned him down included Columbia and NYU, institutions where he would later teach.
Rather than allowing those setbacks to define him, he continued pursuing his education and career. He earned a Doctorate in Business Administration and went on to teach at Columbia University, New York University, UCLA, and Dartmouth’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute.
His story is not about rejection magically turning into success. It is about continuing to learn, adapting after setbacks, and pursuing opportunities even when the path looks different from what you imagined.
Sometimes, the institution that once says no can become part of your professional journey later.
A rejection may close one door, but it does not have to decide your future.
