“Giving back to the community that helped shape you can create a legacy far beyond music.
Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland and Tina Knowles have celebrated the opening of the Knowles-Rowland House in Houston, Texas, transforming a former youth center into 31 permanent supportive housing units for people experiencing chronic homelessness.
The project builds on the legacy of the Knowles-Rowland Center for Youth, which opened in 1999 with support from the Knowles family and Kelly Rowland. After the original facility was damaged by a fire in 2021, the site was redeveloped in partnership with nonprofit Bread of Life, Inc.
But this initiative goes beyond providing a roof. Residents will also have access to supportive services, including mental health counseling, substance-use treatment, case management and life-skills training, helping them work toward greater stability and independence.
The completed development was reported to cost approximately $13.96 million. Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland and Tina Knowles attended the October 13 ribbon-cutting ceremony, marking a meaningful new chapter for a project rooted in their hometown.
Their story is a powerful reminder that success can mean more than what you achieve for yourself. It can also mean investing in the community that helped you become who you are.
