Uganda President Urges Families to Rethink High Bride Price Expectations

Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni is calling on families to end excessive bride-price demands, warning that costly marriage traditions are making marriage increasingly unaffordable for young people.

Speaking at a traditional introduction ceremony in Kiruhura District, Museveni questioned demands reportedly reaching 15 cows and millions of Ugandan shillings, urging families to embrace simpler and more affordable wedding practices.

His message: traditions should bring families together, not leave young couples starting marriage in debt.
