A Black-owned flight school in Metro Atlanta is making a major investment in the future of aviation. Lookup Flight Academy has pledged $1 million toward training 1,000 diverse pilots over the next 20 years, aiming to reduce financial barriers in an industry where representation remains critically low.
The school, based in Gwinnett County, is the county’s first Black-owned flight academy and is working to expand access to aviation careers for aspiring pilots—particularly people of color and women. With new Part 141 certification from the Federal Aviation Administration, the academy is now eligible for additional funding opportunities and scholarships that can help lower the high cost of pilot training.
According to industry data, women currently make up just 10% of commercial pilots, and racial diversity across aviation remains limited. Initiatives like this are designed to help shift that imbalance by creating clearer, more affordable pathways into the cockpit.
The pledge reflects a long-term commitment not just to aviation, but to equity, opportunity, and representation in a field that has historically excluded many from entry.
