Flaviana Matata Is Breaking The Cycle Of Period Poverty Through Clean Restrooms, Scholarships And Free Sanitary Pads

From the runway to classrooms, Flaviana Matata is using her platform to help create opportunities for Tanzania’s girls.

The Tanzanian model and entrepreneur founded the Flaviana Matata Foundation in 2011, turning her influence in the fashion industry into a long-term mission focused on education and empowerment.

The foundation provides scholarships and mentorship to girls from underserved communities, while also supporting school infrastructure, menstrual health education, leadership development, and livelihood programs.

According to the foundation, it has provided more than 271 scholarships and reached more than 400,000 adolescent girls and young women through its programs.

Its work reflects a simple but powerful idea: when girls have access to education, resources, and opportunity, entire communities benefit.

Flaviana Matata’s story is a reminder that influence can extend far beyond the spotlight, especially when it is used to create opportunities for the next generation.
