New Colorado Law Mandates Year-Round Black History in Public Schools by 2028

Colorado just made it clear: Black history is not seasonal. ๐Ÿ“šโœŠ๐Ÿพ

A new law will require all public schools in the state to teach Black history year-round by 2028 โ€” from kindergarten through 12th grade. No more limiting the fullness of our story to just February.

House Bill 25-1149 mandates a comprehensive Black history and cultural studies curriculum integrated throughout the entire school year. As Denver Public Schoolsโ€™ Director of Black Student Success, Michael Atkins, put it: โ€œWe know our story is not just confined to just 28 days.โ€

This is about 365 days of truth.
365 days of context.
365 days of culture, contribution, and clarity.

Representation in curriculum shapes identity, confidence, and understanding โ€” not just for Black students, but for everyone.

Thoughts? Should more states follow?
