Jimmy Amisial, A 22-Year-Old College Student Adopts a Baby that he found Abandoned in a Pile of Trash

At just 22, Jimmy Amisial returned to his hometown of Gonaïves, Haiti during a break from his studies at Texas State University. He had no idea his life—and someone else’s—was about to change forever.

While walking down a familiar street, Jimmy noticed a crowd gathered around a trash can. What he saw inside would haunt anyone: a 4-month-old baby, crying and abandoned.

“I didn’t know how to react at first,” he said. “But I knew I had to do something.”

Jimmy picked up the child and brought him to his mother’s home. Together, they cleaned him, clothed him, and gave him food and warmth. What began as a moment of compassion quickly turned into something deeper—a bond neither of them expected.

Despite struggling financially and falling behind on his own tuition, Jimmy didn’t let hardship stop him. “I grew up without a father. I know what that emptiness feels like,” he shared. “And I couldn’t walk away from that baby.”

He named him Emilio.

Five years later, Emilio is thriving—healthy, happy, and now in school. And Jimmy? He’s in the process of formally adopting him, making their bond official as father and son.

In a world that often turns its back, Jimmy chose to step up. His story is a powerful reminder that love, even in the most unexpected places, can rewrite futures.
