Meet Dr. Oluwami “Wami” Dosunmu-Ogunbi, who made history as the first Black woman to earn a PhD in Robotics from the University of Michigan. 🤖🎓
A daughter of Nigerian immigrants, Wami went from being unsure about her career path to specializing in dynamics and controls, with doctoral research focused on teaching two-legged robots how to climb stairs safely.
Her work connects directly to the future of disaster-response robots, assistive technology, and human-robot interaction.
But her impact goes beyond robotics. Wami has also dedicated herself to mentorship, earning the MLK Spirit Award from Michigan Engineering and serving as a Robotics Outreach Ambassador for three consecutive years.
A historic achievement, backed by a commitment to make the path easier for those coming after her. 👏🏾
