“Do you think of yourself more as an African than a Jamaican?” Bob Marley on Africa — in his own words: “Yeah. Because one of the main thing is that we are Rasta. From you accept Rasta, you become an Ethiopian, which is Africa.”

In context, he was explaining that Rastafari identifies with Africa spiritually and historically — so to him, being Rasta connects him to Africa, and thus to a broader identity beyond just being Jamaican.
