Hip-hop veteran Rah Digga is taking her decades of experience from the stage into the classroom.
The Newark, New Jersey native, whose career includes time with the Outsidaz and Flipmode Squad, has joined the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University as an Adjunct in Rap.
According to Peabody, Rah Digga, whose real name is Rashia Fisher-Weeks, brings more than three decades of experience as an MC, songwriter, educator and curriculum developer to the school’s Hip Hop program.
Her work in education is not new. In 2015, she founded Lyrics Matter, an initiative that teaches Hip Hop history, MC technique, songwriting, artist development, entrepreneurship and the music business.
Now, her experience as an artist and educator is becoming part of a university curriculum, giving students the opportunity to learn rap and Hip Hop culture from someone who has lived the craft firsthand.
