Dr. Bernice A. King is helping turn everyday banking into a tool for community investment.
Redemption Bank, the Black-owned financial institution associated with King, launched its Bank King Card on Juneteenth 2026, with a portion of proceeds from newly opened accounts directed toward organizations supporting low-income mothers and families.
The initiative specifically aims to support mothers living in government-subsidized housing through organizations providing guaranteed-income assistance and other economic support.
The idea is rooted in the belief that financial services can do more than facilitate transactions. They can also help direct resources toward communities facing economic hardship.
The Bank King Card is part of Redemption Bank’s broader mission to expand access to financial services and help address economic inequality. King serves as the bank’s Senior Vice President for Impact Banking.
For Bernice King, the initiative represents another way of carrying forward her family’s long-standing focus on economic justice, dignity and stronger communities.
