Nigerian Americans continue to stand out for their remarkable educational achievements in the United States.
Data consistently shows that people of Nigerian origin in the U.S. have some of the highest levels of educational attainment among major immigrant communities.
According to recent data from the Migration Policy Institute, 67% of Nigerian immigrants ages 25 and older held a bachelor’s degree or higher in 2024. Earlier U.S. Census Bureau research similarly found that 61% of Americans reporting Nigerian ancestry in this age group had earned at least a bachelor’s degree, more than twice the national rate at the time.
Education has played a significant role in the Nigerian diaspora’s story in America, with Nigerian Americans making important contributions across medicine, science, engineering, technology, law, business and academia.
