
Several of the continent’s leading exchanges have delivered returns well above the S&P 500 this year, putting African equities firmly on the radar of global investors.
Markets including Ghana, Nigeria, and Zimbabwe have emerged among Africa’s strongest performers, fueled by a mix of improving economic conditions, investor confidence, currency movements, and renewed interest in local companies.
Data tracking African markets shows that more than half of the major exchanges monitored have outperformed the S&P 500 in U.S. dollar terms in 2026.
For years, global investment conversations have often overlooked African markets. But this year’s rally is a reminder that some of the world’s most compelling growth stories may be happening far beyond the traditional financial centers.
