Twin brothers Xavior and Ilyaas Motley are taking one of the most familiar pieces of protective equipment and asking a simple question: What if gloves could be made specifically for the person wearing them?
The former Division I football players and Ohio University graduates are the founders of ARMA, a patent-pending technology company developing spray-on glove systems designed to function like a second layer of skin.
Their disposable-glove technology is initially being developed for industries such as food service and manufacturing, with potential applications in healthcare and other fields. The brothers say the material is being developed to be skin-safe and aligned with food-contact requirements as testing continues.
They’re also developing ARMA Sport, a separate custom-fit sports glove system designed around an athlete’s individual hand. Their technology can personalize gloves for fit, grip, design and performance.
The twins’ journey began while they were still students and football players at Ohio University. They ultimately chose entrepreneurship over a fourth year of college football to pursue their vision full-time.
Now, they’re building at the intersection of sports, manufacturing, materials science and entrepreneurship — showing what can happen when athletes become inventors.
