Black Marriage Rates Are Rising for the First Time in 40 Years. 📈
After hitting a low around 2010—when only about 29% of Black adults were married—marriage rates within the Black community have seen a steady rebound. By 2023, that number rose to roughly 33–35%, marking a nearly 20% increase from the early 2010s.
Researchers say this shift represents the first long-term resurgence in decades and reflects hundreds of thousands more Black couples choosing marriage. The trend is also echoed in related indicators, including rising marriage rates among Black men and a growing share of Black women entering committed unions.
