Asante Gold: UK Returns Looted Ghana Artifacts On Loan After 150 Years

The UK has finally returned looted Asante Gold artifacts to Ghana—but only on loan until 2027.

These sacred treasures were stolen in 1874 when the British Army raided the Ashanti royal palace.

Instead of permanent repatriation, the pieces are being borrowed back under the National Heritage Act, which prevents full return.
