She once did her homework under a streetlight. Today, she’s Dr. Mona Dixon.
Growing up homeless — living in shelters, on the streets, and in unstable housing — Dr. Dixon pushed through circumstances that could have easily defined her future. At just 12 years old, her family secured stable housing after years of struggle.
Now, she has earned her doctorate in organizational leadership, focusing her work on nonprofit boards and fundraising — turning hardship into purpose.
Her story is a reminder that resilience, support, and perseverance can rewrite any beginning.
