Instacart Accused Of Charging Different Prices To Different Shoppers — For The Same Exact Groceries From The Same Exact Store

A new consumer investigation is sparking national outrage after uncovering what may be one of the grocery industry’s most unsettling secrets: identical Instacart orders, from the exact same store, reportedly ringing up at completely different prices depending on who’s shopping.

Researchers found that two carts filled with the same milk, juice, snacks, and staples could show price swings of nearly $10 or more—sometimes simply because of a shopper’s location or profile. Experts warn this may be the result of Instacart’s AI-driven “dynamic pricing,” a system that can quietly charge one customer a much higher total while offering another a better deal, all without disclosure.

As families fight rising grocery costs, the idea that an algorithm could be inflating bills behind the scenes is raising serious questions about fairness, transparency, and the future of digital shopping.
