Africa Nears a Major Milestone: Managing Nearly $1 Trillion of Its Own Wealth. 💹🌍
Africa is now overseeing close to US$1 trillion in assets, reflecting a significant rise in financial independence across the continent. Much of this growth comes from public pension funds, central banks, and a surge in newly established sovereign wealth funds.
In 2025 alone, five new funds were launched in countries including Botswana, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Eswatini, Kenya, and Nigeria’s Oyo State — with Nigeria leading overall asset growth.
The shift marks a turning point: African institutions are mobilizing local capital rather than relying primarily on foreign aid or concessional financing, laying a stronger foundation for long-term infrastructure investment, development, and economic resilience.
