Two historic Black-owned banks are joining forces to build something even bigger.
Optus Bank and Mechanics & Farmers Bank have announced a merger that will create the largest Black-owned financial institution in the United States, with approximately $1.27 billion in combined assets.
Together, the institutions bring more than 220 years of Black banking history and a shared mission of expanding access to capital, supporting entrepreneurs, and creating greater economic opportunity in underserved communities.
This isn’t just about getting bigger. It’s about building greater financial power and creating more capacity to serve Black communities.
