According to the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare September 2023 report, Japan officially recorded over 92,000 centenarians, and that number surpassed 95,000 by early 2024. The data is released annually ahead of Japan’s Respect for the Aged Day (celebrated the third Monday of September). The vast majority — more than 88% — are women.
