Shonda Rhimes Makes History as the First Black Woman to Have a Building Named in Her Honor at Dartmouth College

She’s rewritten television history — now she’s rewriting legacy.

Trailblazing creator Shonda Rhimes (the genius behind Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, and Bridgerton) just pledged $15 million to her alma mater, Dartmouth College, to bring Shonda Rhimes Hall to life — a five-story residence for students, creativity, and community.

Opening in 2028, the hall will feature soundproof creative rooms, a grand piano (her idea 🎹), and spaces designed to spark connection and imagination.

“I think philanthropy can set an example and open doors for other people to see what’s possible,” Rhimes said — and she’s doing exactly that.
