Philadelphia’s Oldest Black Bookstore, Est. 1959, Just Became a Historic Landmark!

Philadelphia’s oldest Black-owned bookstore, Hakim’s Bookstore, has officially been granted a historical marker — honoring over six decades of empowerment, education, and community. 🖤

Founded in 1959 by Dawud Abdel Hakim, the store became a symbol of truth and progress — once labeled “revolutionary” by the FBI, but cherished by the people as a safe haven for learning and self-discovery.

Today, his daughter Yvonne Blake proudly carries on that mission, proving that knowledge, culture, and Black history will always have power. 🙌🏾
