Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem Rewards TSA Staff With $10K Bonuses As Government Shutdown Ends

Secretary of Homeland Security #KristiNoem has announced $10,000 bonuses for TSA agents who provided “exemplary service” and continued working through the 43-day government shutdown, according to @msnbc.

Speaking at an airport in Houston, Noem said the bonuses — which are in addition to back pay — are meant to reward workers who “stepped up, took extra shifts, and showed up every single day.”

A Trump administration official shared that several thousand agents will qualify for the bonuses based on strong performance reviews from their supervisors. This decision follows weeks of flight disruptions, FAA-mandated limits on flights due to staffing shortages, and long TSA lines that caused delays at airports across the country.

President #DonaldTrump said Monday that air traffic controllers who missed work would see their pay “substantially docked,” while those who continued reporting for duty would be put forward for similar $10,000 bonuses. Officials added Wednesday that flight cutbacks at 40 major U.S. airports will stay at 6%, rather than increasing to 10% by week’s end, because more air traffic controllers are now coming in to work.
