🌍 ✊🏾For centuries, the Mercator projection has distorted our view of the world — shrinking Africa while inflating regions near the poles. Now, the African Union is taking action.
In August 2025, it officially backed the “Correct The Map” campaign, calling for the outdated Mercator map to be replaced with the Equal Earth projection — a fairer, more accurate representation of the world.
AU Deputy Chair Selma Malika Haddadi explained: “It might seem to be just a map, but in reality, it is not.”
And as Fara Ndiaye added in her interview with Reuters: “We’re actively working on promoting a curriculum where the Equal Earth projection will be the main standard across all (African) classrooms.”
This isn’t just about geography — it’s about power, perception, and truth. Africa is not small. Africa is central. 🌍
