New Jersey State Police have released their 2025 Most Wanted list, placing 77‑year‑old Joanne Chesimard—better known as Assata Shakur—at its top, offering up to $2 million for information leading to her return.
Shakur was convicted in the 1973 murder of State Trooper Werner Foerster, escaped prison in 1979, and has lived in Cuba in exile since 1984
In light of her decades in exile and her age, is allocating such significant resources to this case the best use of law enforcement’s time and taxpayer dollars?
