Judge Blocks Trump Administration Job Corps Shutdown

A federal judge just issued a temporary block on the Trump administration’s plan to suspend Job Corps centers nationwide — a move that would’ve displaced thousands of young people aged 16–24 who rely on the program for free housing, education, and career training.

The Dept. of Labor announced in May it would end the program, citing “serious incident reports” and fiscal concerns.

But the court challenge — led by the National Job Corps Association — argues the decision is illegal, irrational, and harmful to disadvantaged youth, contractors, and staff alike.

🔹 “Shuttering Job Corps will have disastrous, irreparable consequences,” the lawsuit states.
🔹 Sen. Tammy Baldwin called it “a step in the wrong direction.”
🔹 Sen. Susan Collins added that Congress funded the program — and the administration can’t just cut it “to make room for tax breaks for billionaires.”

Job Corps has helped millions of low-income young people gain trade skills and job opportunities since 1964. For many, it’s the only path to a stable future.
