“For the first time ever, an Olympic sporting event is coming to Africa as Senegal prepares to host the 2026 Youth Olympic Games from October 31 to November 13.
The cities of Dakar, Diamniadio, and Saly will welcome approximately 2,700 young athletes from around the world for a global celebration of sports, culture, and youth achievement.
🏅 Here’s what to know:
- 25 competition sports
- 10 additional engagement sports
- 153 medal events
- Approximately 2,700 young athletes
- Three host locations across Senegal
But this moment means more than medals and records.
Hosting the Games puts Africa at the center of a historic Olympic milestone, creating opportunities to showcase its culture, inspire young people, and strengthen the continent’s place on the global sporting stage.
The Youth Olympics have also helped launch future champions. Athletes like South African swimmer Chad le Clos and British taekwondo star Jade Jones competed at Singapore 2010 before becoming Olympic gold medalists at London 2012.
Now, a new generation is preparing to write its own chapter in Olympic history.
Africa welcomes. Dakar celebrates. And the world is watching. 🇸🇳
