John Legend is stepping into the role of a civil rights icon.
The EGOT winner has joined the cast of The Road Home, where he will portray the late singer, actor, and activist Harry Belafonte.
The film is centered on South African jazz legend Hugh Masekela and the political and cultural tensions surrounding Paul Simon’s Graceland during the apartheid era. Thabo Rametsi stars as Masekela, alongside Cynthia Erivo, Guy Pearce, Johnny Flynn, and Legend.
Production is already underway in South Africa.
