After facing a hefty $10K bill for her myomectomy, Khaleelah Harris took action by co-founding The Beauty of Our Wellness, a nonprofit that supports Black women struggling with fibroids. Partnering with Yasmine Griffiths, they’re disbursing $500 micro-grants to help lessen the financial strain of treatment. Their initiative serves as a powerful testament to how grassroots movements can foster significant change.
“When we launched The Beauty of Our Wellness just 7 months ago, our mission was clear: to align with the growing movement for Uterine Fibroids Awareness,” Harris shared. She knows firsthand the impact fibroids can have on life—her largest mass reached a size comparable to a small peach at 5 x 7 x 7 inches. “To have deal with everything that comes along with that on top of handling daily responsibilities is a lot for anyone to handle.”
In just half a year, they’ve successfully raised $10,000 for the Beauty of Our Wellness Fund, which is now open for applications. Visit www.thebeautyofourwellness.com to apply.
