“I get chills hearing Racha speak about how the birthing process SHOULD feel for every woman bringing life into this world. Imagine being truly heard, deeply respected… and completely free. During my second pregnancy, having Racha as my midwife gave me all of that.
This is the kind of care we’re committed to promoting and supporting through Baby Yams and the grants we’ve made available to midwives in partnership with @birthfuture. Visit birthfuture.org/apply to learn more and apply.
Thank you, Racha, for your vision, perseverance, and the love you have for all birthing people.” @TatyanaAli
Racha Tahani Lawler-Queen, a fourth-generation midwife, founded Gather Grounded Midwifery, Virginia’s first Black-owned birthing center, providing a welcoming haven for expanding families.
Lawler-Queen began her journey last year, fueled by a passion for community-centered care.
Initially planning a Richmond home transformation into a birthing center, Lawler-Queen faced permit challenges.
Undeterred, she relocated to Chesterfield County, officially opened in August with community support.
“We deserve safe spaces to bring tiny humans earthside. This birthing home is my commitment to offering a place where Black, Brown, Indigenous, queer families are prioritized. The home needs your support before tiny humans can be born on this land, in this home.
Asking was the 2nd hardest part, and i’m so very GRATEFUL to ALL who’ve generously donated already. Thank you in advance for your support here by liking, sharing and in real life.” @RachaTahani
