Meet The South Sudanase Students Who Built A Robot To Rid The World’s Oceans Of Plastics

4 teens from South Sudan came up with an innovative way to solve the world’s plastic problem. They constructed a robot to remove plastic debris from waterways like the Nile River during the First Global Challenge, which took place in Dubai. The Nile is one of the 10 rivers responsible for nearly 90% of plastic pollution flowing into the ocean.

“As a youth, our main point is to unite and make a change and work with the community to clean the oceans. We can do it together,” James Madut, one of the team members, told Gulf News.

Adau Deng Kuol, also from South Sudan, said the competition “gave a voice to people who can do something about the problem”.

Their inspiring work highlights how STEM education can empower young minds to create solutions for real-world problems and drive global change.
