Governor McMaster Issues Burn Ban as Wildfires Spread Across SOUTH CAROLINA and Neighboring States

A South Carolina forest fire has grown to an estimated 1,200 acres, prompting a statewide burn ban. Governor Henry McMaster has issued a state of emergency. Neighboring states, NC and GA are also under a state of emergency. The GFC responded to 137 wildfires throughout the state on Saturday. These wildfires burned a total of 2,390 acres, which is approximately the size of 1,810 football fields.

Officials said conditions for Sunday are slightly better than yesterday, but residents need to be extremely cautious with anything that may start fires outdoors.
