Uoma Beauty Founder Sharon Chuter Found Dead Months After Filing Multi-Million Lawsuit Claiming She Was ‘Pushed Out’ Of Her Company

Sharon Chuter, visionary founder of UOMA Beauty and trailblazer behind the Pull Up For Change movement, was not only a beauty mogul but also a fearless advocate for racial equity and social justice in beauty and fashion.

According to The Grio, Chuter filed a lawsuit in February 2025 against MacArthur Beauty, BrainTrust, and Settle Funding—alleging her company’s assets were sold without her knowledge to cover a loan, and that BrainTrust forced her out of leadership. Reports confirm the assets were acquired by private equity firm MacArthur Beauty, but her suit claims the brand was sold for far less than its $50M valuation.

As reported by RollingOut, the lawsuit and sale unfolded just months before Chuter’s untimely passing in August 2025. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has listed her cause of death as “deferred”—meaning the case remains under investigation. Meanwhile, the sale of UOMA’s assets is still tied up in court, with no settlement in place.

🕊️ RIP Sharon Chuter (@heysharonc) — a true pioneer whose fight for beauty, equity, and justice lives on.
