Ghana Cedi Becomes The World’s Best Performing Currency After Appreciating 16% Against The US Dollar Since April

The Ghanaian cedi has emerged as the world’s best-performing currency since April 2025, appreciating nearly 16% against the U.S. dollar. This significant gain has brought the exchange rate to approximately GHC13.4 per dollar, marking a substantial recovery from earlier levels.

This appreciation is largely attributed to a combination of strong fiscal measures implemented by the government and tight monetary policies enforced by the Bank of Ghana. These efforts have been pivotal in stabilizing the economy and strengthening the local currency.

The strengthening of the cedi has had a positive impact on Ghana’s economy, particularly in reducing import costs and easing inflationary pressures. In April 2025, the country’s inflation rate fell to 21.2%, the lowest in eight months, with significant declines observed in both food and non-food inflation categories.
