SpaceX, the company the FAA is considering awarding a $2.4 billion contract, has experienced its second consecutive failed launch. During its eighth flight test, the Starship lost attitude control approximately eight minutes after liftoff, leading to a loss of communication. The spacecraft’s engines exploded, and debris broke apart as it plummeted back to Earth.
Glowing wreckage was seen falling over the Caribbean Sea, from the Bahamas to Florida. As a result, hazardous conditions have grounded flights, causing widespread cancellations across the Caribbean with no rebooking options available for stranded passengers.
Despite receiving billions in taxpayer funding to develop and launch these rockets, SpaceX continues to suffer high-profile failures. Taxpayer dollars are then used to clean up the environmental damage, while the federal government spends even more addressing the ripple effects, including disrupted air travel.
Is this yet another example of government fraud, waste, and abuse?
