This day builds on the momentum of other movements like Black Girl Day Off, which has highlighted the importance of rest for Black women. As a form of resistance, choosing rest is a declaration against systems that exploit Black women’s labor and a reclaiming of their time and energy. On December 2nd, the call is to disconnect from digital distractions, engage in activities that nourish the soul, and prioritize well-being
Whether it’s catching up on sleep, spending time in nature, or simply doing nothing at all, the National Day of Rest is about giving oneself permission to rest without guilt. It’s a reminder that, just as Black women have long supported others, it’s now time to honor their own need for rest and healing.
