“Meet Ire Aderinokun, a Nigerian software engineer, entrepreneur, and investor who turned a teenage curiosity into an international technology career.
Her journey began with a simple interest in building websites. At just 13, she created a fan site for the online game Neopets and started learning HTML. What began as a hobby eventually grew into a career in software development.
She went on to become Nigeria’s first female Google Developer Expert, specializing in web technologies, and co-founded Helicarrier, a Y Combinator-backed startup developing cryptocurrency infrastructure for Africa.
But her impact goes beyond the companies she has helped build.
Through technical writing, speaking engagements, developer communities, and scholarship support, Ire has also worked to make the technology industry more accessible to aspiring developers, particularly women.
Her story is a reminder that you don’t always need to know where your passion will lead. Sometimes, you just need to start learning, stay curious, and keep building.
The skill you explore today could become the career that changes your tomorrow.
