Two North Carolina A&T State University students are turning community service into tangible change for children in Greensboro.
Ryan Pennington and Ahmad Blair helped launch the Greensboro chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a nonprofit dedicated to providing beds to children who don’t have one of their own. Pennington serves as chapter president, while Blair serves as vice president.
The organization brings volunteers together to cut lumber, assemble beds and deliver them to families in need — at no cost to the children receiving them.
Their first build day brought together 20 volunteers who built four beds for local children. The students have continued organizing additional build days and growing the chapter’s impact throughout the Greensboro community.
Both students are balancing the work with their college studies, demonstrating that leadership isn’t something that has to wait until graduation.
Sometimes, creating change starts with something as simple as building a bed for a child who needs one.
