At just 16, Nigerian student Belusochim Ugochukwu has already gained hands-on experience working with one of the world’s biggest technology companies.
Ugochukwu joined Apple in 2026 as a Machine Learning Intern on the Environment & Supply Chain Innovation team, where his work included computer vision for robots designed to help sort electronic waste in recycling facilities.
His path into technology began years earlier. He competed in mathematics and physics Olympiads from the age of 11, researched AI models, developed a prototype robotic wheelchair, and worked on an education technology startup.
After moving from Nigeria to the United States at 14, he graduated from high school and began college at 15. He announced his Apple internship in May 2026, describing the opportunity as a chance to contribute to Apple’s efforts around product recycling and sustainability.
He has since completed the 13-week internship, describing the experience as an opportunity to work alongside engineers on computer vision and robotics challenges.
A remarkable early chapter for a young Nigerian technologist whose work is already reaching the intersection of AI, robotics and sustainability.
